EDSS Intruder Drill

• Date Mon, Sept. 28, 2009
• Time 10 30 a.m. (period B)

Protocol

• Dial 0 to report the situation (call goes to the
  hot red phone in the office)
• Provide location and description (e.g., outside,
  or 2nd floor, three males with guns)
• In the event of an intruder drill, you will be
  notified that this is in fact a DRILL
• CD announcement will be made (e.g., Code Red
  Alert, intruder inside or situation outside)

  Drill (repeat)

Classroom Procedure

• Collect students from outside your door
• Lock and close door
• Cover windows on hallway doors (use garbage bags)
• If intruder is inside the building, turn on the
  lights and open perimeter blinds/curtains/
  (police may monitor)
• If intruder is outside the building, shut
  blinds/curtains and turn off the lights
• Collect all cell phones (shut off)
• Open perimeter curtains
• Leave lights on and remain silent
• Move to an area with minimal exposure sit low
• Be quiet and do not answer the door!!
• Record absentees

Classroom Procedures

• Do not allow access to your rooms during the
  lockdown
• Contact the office (ext. 502) if you have an
  emergency (e.g., student in anaphylactic shock)
• Police (or perhaps administration) may unlock
  your door

End of Procedure

• Do not leave the room unless instructed to do so
  by the police, fire or emergency response team
• During a drill, an announcement will be made to
  terminate the drill (e.g., LOCKDOWN TERMINATED
  ALL CLEAR ALL CLEAR ALL CLEAR
• Ignore any fire alarm
• If you need to contact the police call 502

• Gymsmove to change rooms and lock the doors
• Washroomsremain inside
• Cafeteriamove students to the kitchen/ staff
  dining area
• Hallwaymove into closest classroom
