2
Evaporation vs. Condensation
  • Evaporation is the cooling process.
  • Evaporation has a phase change from liquid to a
    gas.
  • Heat energy is absorb by the liquid causing it to
    become a gas.
  • Condensation has a phase change from gas to
    liquid.
  • Condensation is the warming process.
  • Heat energy is released by the gas when it
    condenses into a liquid.

3
Energy Flow
  • Heat flows from hot to cold until both substances
    are the same temperature.
  • Energy must be put into a substance to change its
phase from solid to liquid to gas.
  • Energy must be extracted from a substance to
change its phase from a gas to liquid to solid.

4
Warming vs. Cooling
  • Warming
  • Releases thermal energy.
  • Cooling
  • Absorbs thermal energy.
