THE CONTEXT East Kalgoorlie Primary School is a
Government K-7 school on the outskirts of
Kalgoorlie in the Goldfields region of Western
Australia. Of the schools approximately 70
students, all but three are Indigenous. The
schools population has been highlt transient,
with only eight students continuously enrolled
from the start of 2006 to the end of 2008.

• Parent feedback in 2005 indicated that areas for
  improvement were-
• Increasing good behaviour
• Being a caring school
• Bullying
• 2008 survey feedback from parents was pleasing,
  confirming the progress school has made in making
  the school a safe learning environment. 39 of
  surveys were returned with responses showing the
  school is organised and well run. It has a good
  sense of cultural identity and is caring, safe
  and supportive. They like the Deadly and Smart
  focus. They believe their children like going to
  school everyday, get on with their teachers and
  believe their children are treated fairly at
  school. Most families believe bullying is not a
  problem anymore, and when it occurs it is
  addressed immediately.
