AMHE PG program

• Haitian physicians comprise close to 10 of all
  Black physicians in the US and according to the
  former US President Bill Clinton it is a solid
  11 of all black physicians in the US.(Haiti
  Week, Dublin Northern Ireland Oct. 2011)
• A sizable number of Haitian Docs worked at major
  US Universities. Their major medical organization
  is the AMHE

AMHE PG program

• The Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad
  (AMHE)besides providing 25 CME credits at its
  annual convention to its members, sent its
  teaching Physicians to Haiti(Relief Mission) and
  also ran a post graduate program in the US for
  Haitian Residents at HUEH since 2005 and
  extended to Justinien Hospital,2010

• In 2005, Dr Maxime Coles,actual president of the
  CEC, an Orthopedic Surgeon working at the
  Coffeyville in Kansas initiated the AMHE PG
  program.
• Our officer designed a three month rotation for
  the HUEH Orthopedic Residents. Since its
  inception, more than 5 residents have
  participated in this AMHE program. See
  Coffeyville Hospital below.

AMHE PG programin New York

• An initiative launched by SIMACT (Societe
  Immobiliere Agriculture, Commerce, Tourisme) and
  AMHE but administered by AMHE Medical Relief
  Mission has been running since September 2007.
  The program is also supported by Brooklyn
  Hospital, the NY Chapter and the AMHE foundation.

• The program consists of training the residents
  of the State University Hospital of Haiti and
  bring them back to Port-au-Prince or Cap-Haitien
  just for building intellectual capacity. They
  should then properly, and adequately serve the
  1.3 million low and middle class clients the
  HUEH or Justinien for every day care.

• The HUEH (State University Hospital) residents
  are chosen by the Dean of the medical school and
  teachers Faculte of Medicine in Haiti on the
  basis of their academic achievements and are
  submitted to us.
• The residents from Justinen Hospital in Cap
  Haitien are chosen by the Medical Director
  assisted by a Reseach committee of Attending
  Physicians.

• By groups of 2s, they spend 3 months rotating in
  different services as anesthesiology, internal
  medicine, family practice, obstetrics-gynecology,
  pediatrics, surgery.
• Mainly at Brooklyn Hospital but also at
  Interfaith Medical Center

• The Brooklyn Hospital Center, a 464 bed Medical
  Center hôpital, created in 1847 is located at 121
  DeKalb Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11201.Its is a member
  of the New York and Presbyterian Healthcare
  System. The hospital enjoyed the services of many
  Haitian Docs.

• Interfaith Medical center (Old Brooklyn Jewish
  Hospital) has downzized but continued to train 75
  Medical Residents with a board passing rate of
  99. Three major departments are run by docs from
  Haitian descent. Many Haitian surgeons were
  trained at that institution.

AMHE PG program

• The resident accepted to the program pays for his
  airline ticket. However, as soon as he arrives.
  He is picked up at the airport and brought to the
  Brooklyn hospital. apartment . He is provided
  with meal ticket and a stipend given by the NY
  chapter and the AMHE foundation.

• He is lodged on the 14th floor at the Menard
  Building just behind the Brooklyn hospital
  premises. He received a phone and a TV set and
  internet service are available.
• If he or she has to come to Interfaith hospital,
  a metrocard is paid for.

• A certificate of completion is provided at the
  end of the cycle. The people in charge are Drs
  Paul Nacier, Patrick Leblanc, Lesly Kernisant,
  Eric Jerome,
• Also Roosevelt Clerisme, Spencer Lubin, Carryl
  Stephens. Bernard Rimpel, Jean-Claude Lemoine,
  Jacques Duperval, Dr Elsie Chalumeau, Dr Louis
  Franck Télémaque ,Dr Louis Auguste,Dr Rudy
  Neptune
• The first residents were lodged at the AMHE NY
  head quarters (Jerome-Dufresne corp, courtesy)

• So far, close to 40 residents have been trained
  since September 2007.

• E Learning is slowly becoming a reality.
• Because of a program of Mcgill in Canada and
  Darmouth in US.(HME)
• HUEH residents and Now Justinien residents are
  able to receive one CME conference every
  Wednesday morning, live.This program will be
  available to Jeremie soon.
