Writing Procedures

• Question What is the effect of type of Earth
  material (gravel, sand, silt) on the ramp angle
  at which the Earth material will slide?
• Procedure
• Fill the plastic box with 1.1 pounds of gravel.
• Put the plastic box open side down on the ramp
  when the ramp is flat on the table.
• Slowly lift one end of the ramp until the plastic
  box filled with gravel starts to slide down the
  ramp.
• Measure and Record the angle at which the plastic
  box filled with gravel starts to slide as Trail
  1.
• Repeat steps 1 through 4 using sand and then
  silt.
• Calculate and record the average ramp angle for
  each Earth material.
• Be sure to clean the ramp before each trial, dry
  the ramp after each trial, and use the same scale
  to measure the Earth material.
• Repeat steps 1 through 6 two more times for
  validity.

Important Parts of a Procedure

• Must be in a numbered list
• Be specific, you should be able to switch
  experiments with another group and they could
  complete your experiment without talking to you.
• Measure and Record should be in your procedure
  somewhere.
• Add Be sure tos What will stay the same?
  These are steps to increase validity. (This is
  something that if it changes, it could mess up
  your experiment)
• Repeat Experiment at the end, to make sure your
  results are valid.
