Students Name Department of Forest, Range, and
Wildlife Sciences Utah State University, Logan,
Utah, USA
2
OBJECTIVE
To determine the usefulness of pacing as a
measurement tool for conducting monitoring or
inventory studies.
3
LOCATION

DISCUSSION
  • Three terrains (road, sagebrush, and
pinyon/juniper) had very similar pacing results
  • The steep slope took several more steps to go up
hill, and only a few more steps to go down hill
  • Overall, steep slope averaged almost ten steps
    longer than the other terrains
  • Flat terrain requires little pace adjustment
while steep sloping terrain requires about a 10
    percent increase in paces
