The Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs

Ancient Egypt had 3 important time periods.

• Old Kingdom had strong government and built
  pyramids. 2700-2200 BCE
• Middle Kingdom period of reuniting after years
  of chaos. Achievements were made in literature,
  art, and architecture. 2040-1633 BCE
• New Kingdom Egypts Golden Age a time of
  peace and stability 1558-1085 BCE
• Egypt became very powerful and increased trade
  and built gigantic monuments.

Pharaoh Khufu

• Ruled from 2551 to 2538 BCE
• Built the Great Pyramid and many tombs
• Declared himself a God

• In addition to the splendor of the Great Pyramid,
  an exciting ancient wooden boat was found sealed
  in a pit at the base of the Great Pyramid.
• This boat was buried in pieces and has since been
  reassembled, restored and housed in a climate
  controlled museum over the site of the original
  pit.

• Ruled during Middle Kingdom
• Was a strong ruler
• Built temples, shrines, and religious monuments,
  including the White Chapel. Also has beautiful
  art and wrote The Story of Sinuhe

• Craftspeople used gold, silver, copper, and gems
  to make beautiful jewelry.

No symbol was as important to the ancient
Egyptians as the scarab, or dung beetle. Scarab
amulets were symbolic of rebirth due to the dung
beetle's proclivity for rolling a piece of dung
into a spherical ball, then using it as a
brooding chamber from which the newborn beetle
will emerge.
