  • Who commanded the Legion?
  • Who was at the bottom of the group?
  • Who decided what happened?

Ranks
  • Ranks were the order of importance.
  • There were 64 Centurions, they were average on
    importance.
  • There were lots of soldiers and places in the
    Ranks inside every Legion.
  • Legate-Legates were at the top of their Legion.
  • Prefect-Prefects were in the middle.
  • Auxiliary- Auxiliaries were at the bottom.

Men in Roman armies
There were lots of men in a Roman army and lots
of names for them too!

The Auxiliary
  • The Auxiliary was at the bottom of the rank.
  • Although weirdly he was paid lots!
  • He really had to pay attention to the Legate and
    he didnt have any respect at all . He was a
    non-citizen soldier!!!

Surveyor
  • The Surveyor chose what happened at the army
    camp.
  • He also decided where they went and what they did
    there.
  • He was quite high up in the Ranks.

He made many soldiers work very hard.

The Legate
  • The Legate commanded the Legion.
  • He was at the top of the Rank and handpicked by
    the Emperor himself.
  • Everyone had to respect him or else they wouldnt
    be very popular!!!
