appraisal of his or her own worth

Benefits of High Self-Esteem
  • Accept yourself for who you are
  • Realistic view of strengths and weaknesses
  • Maintain a positive attitude even when they fail
    at a task
  • You will be more likely to eat well, exercise
    regularly, and avoid risky behavior
  • More likely to set goals for yourself
  • Ask for help more often when you need it
  • Can bounce back from set backs more easily

Risks of Low Self-Esteem
  • Dont have much respect for themselves
  • Judge themselves harshly
  • Worry about what others think of them
  • Put on an act to impress others and to hide
    their insecurities
  • Wont try new things in fear of failure or
    looking bad
  • Can be more difficult to succeed

Ways to Improve Self-Esteem
  • Make a list of strengths and weaknesses
  • Dont be too hard on yourself
  • Rely on your values
  • Learn to accept compliments
  • Look beyond your own concerns
  • Do not focus too much on appearance
  • Set goals

Write 5 Goals
  • Use declaration of intent (I WILL)
  • Label each goal as short-term or long-term goals
  • Note at least one person you will share each goal
    with to keep you on track
  • Where will you post this goal to remind you
    everyday?

Choose TOP Goal
  • Why is this goal meaningful to you?
  • What do you see when you imagine yourself
    reaching this goal?
  • Be specific using many adjectives
  • (color, location, type, style, etc.)
  • What does the accomplishment of this goal mean to
    you?

  • Specific Answers the questions
  • - Who? -What? -Where?
  • -When? -Which? -Why?
  • Measurable Answer the questions such as
  • -How much? -How many?
  • -How will I know when it is accomplished?
  • - How are you going to measure the progress
    of your goal?
  • Attainable You can attain most any goal you set!
  • Realistic Are you willing to AND able to do the
    work needed?
  • Timely When do you want to have this
    accomplished by?

  • Why I love the feeling of accomplishment after I
    have done something I know I have worked hard
    for.
  • Measurable
  • I will measure my progress by being able to
    finish each leg individually.
  • Then I will combine them and complete.
  • I will know I have accomplished my goal when I
    finish the race.
  • Attainable
  • I CAN DO IT!!!!
  • Realistic
  • I am both willing and able to work!
  • Timely
  • Before my 40th birthday
