Is it common?

• In 2000, ¼ of adults in the U.S. reported having
  been physically abused as children.
• 1 out of every 4 girls and 1 out of every 10 boys
  are victims of sexual aggression.
• 4 million women a year are battered.

• 1/3 of husbands had acted violently to their
  wives and their wives were almost as likely to
  used physical violence against their husbands.
• Most often, female violence is retaliation.

• Verbal and psychological abuse are part of
  families.
• Can be more damaging than physical wounds.
• More than 9 million children suffer from neglect
  (2000)
