PREPARE FOR SUCCESSFUL TEST-TAKING
  • Do your assignments on time.
  • Read and take notes on assignments BEFORE they
    are discussed in class.
  • Ask your instructor what will be covered on the
    test.
  • Become aware of what kind of test will be given.

4
TYPES OF TESTS
  • OBJECTIVE TESTS--multiple choice, true-false,
    matching, fill-in.
  • SUBJECTIVE TESTS--short answer, essay.
  • PERFORMANCE TESTS--hands-on, project.

5
OPTIMIZE YOUR HEALTH
  • A HEALTHFUL DIET--low in refined sugar, high in
    protein, fruits, and veggies.
  • ADEQUATE SLEEP--most people need seven to nine
    hours per night.
  • REGULAR EXERCISE--walking, taking opportunities
    to move around.
  • REGULAR HEALTH CARE VISITS--to your physician and
    eye doctor.

6
AVOID CRAMMING--memorization, if you forget, is
not learning.

CREATE AN EFFECTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

EFFECTIVELY
  • TOGETHER

8
HAVE A STUDY ORDER
  • Break the job down into smaller tasks.
  • Work on the hardest parts first.
  • Do reading before writing.
  • Use constructive repetition--study first and
    last.
  • Avoid long read-only sessions.
  • Plan your study time and breaks.

9
USE MEMORY DEVICES
  • Honestly convince yourself that you want to
remember what you are about to study. What we
learn with pleasure we never forget.--Mercier
  • Try recitation using your own words.
  • Use the dictionary and glossary.
  • Translate concepts into your own words.

10
... MORE MEMORY DEVICES
  • Create acronyms.
  • Create mnemonic sentences.
  • Create rhymes and jingles.
  • Associate or link related ideas.
  • Use visualization--create or recall mental images
related to what you are learning.
  • Anticipate test questions.

11
LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES
  • Study returned tests. Consider ways to improve
    next time around.
  • Figure out what worked and what didnt.
  • Be honest with yourself in evaluating your
    performance.
  • If you have trouble, ask for help from your
    instructor or another qualified person.
