Machine Setup
  • Size 90/14 universal point, embroidery
    (preferred), topstitch or jeans needle
  • Purple variegated (preferred) or regular thread
    in top
  • Dark blue / purple cotton or polyester thread in
    bobbin
  • Presser foot for Baby Lock- Open Toe foot
    (preferred) -or- "N" foot
  • Presser foot for Bernina in order of
    preference- 39D / 39C / 39 (Clear
    Embroidery)- 6 (Embroidery)- 20D / 20C / 20
    (Open Toe)- 34D / 34C / 34 (Clear Zig Zag)-
    1D / 1C / 1 (Regular Zig Zag)

  • Select a scallop stitch
  • Width as wide as possible. Length standard
  • Explore Pattern Extend / Pattern Elongation if
    available.

  • Test sew onto test fabric and stabilizer.
  • Reduce Tension, increase Stitch Length if
    necessary.
  • Sew scallops using variegated thread and size 90
    needle onto dark blue fabric with stabilizer
    underneath. Line up presser foot along edge of
    fabric.
  • Trim scallop edges carefully using small, sharp
    fabric scissors. Use Fray Check on any thread you
    may have accidentally snipped.
  • Homework - Explore your different scallop
    stitches and sew them out. They are much prettier
    sewn out!- Play with combining different
    scallops together.
