  • A predicate nominative is a noun or pronoun that
    appears with a linking verb and renames,
    identifies or explains the subject of a sentence.
  • Take Note In a sentence with a predicate
    nominative, the linking verb acts as an equal
    sign between the subject and the predicate
    nominative. They refer to the same person or
    thing.

Predicate Nominative Examples
  • In the examples, subjects are underlined once,
    linking verbs are in black font, and predicate
    nominatives are italicized.
  • The winner of the tournament is our team.
  • Team renames winner.
  • The new captain of the team will be Sue.
  • Sue renames captain.
