Reading Counts
Students must be able to read the Reading Counts
questions independently before taking a reading
counts quiz. Some students are ready for the
program and some will not be ready until November
or December. Encourage your child to keep their
Reading Counts book at home and to reread it
until they fully comprehend they story. Ask your
child questions about the story when they
complete the book. If they do not fully
comprehend the story they will not pass the quiz.
Students will have an opportunity to take the
quiz one more time. Read the book to your child
if the book is too difficult. (Five Finger Rule)
Also, ask questions while you are reading the
book. Most Scholastic books are reading counts
