Title: Phys of Osseous Tissue

1
Phys of Osseous Tissue
  • Mineral Deposition crystallization of Ca2, P
and other ions to form bone
  • Mineral resorption dissolving of bone caused by
an enzyme acid phosphates that is produced by
    osteoclasts
  • Ca2 is used in many body processes and must be
regulated to maintain normal body function

2
Phys of Osseous Tissue
  • Bones act as a storage center for key minerals
Ca2 being one of most important
  • Bones have two Ca2 reserves 1) stable part of
bone hard to release into blood, 2) about 1 of
bone mass that is released or absorbed with need
  • Hypocalcemia low blood Ca2 leads to tremors and
    spasms

3
Phys of Osseous Tissue
  • Hypercalcemia high levels of Ca2 in blood leads
to muscle weakness, emotional disturbances, Code
    Blue
  • Calcitriol is a form of Vit D that acts as a
hormone to raise Ca2 absorption in SI and
    increase resorption
  • Calcitonin is produced by the thyroid gland to
    inhibit resorption and promote deposition

4
Phys of Osseous Tissue
  • Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) produced by the
    parathyroid to increase the resorption
  • Draw up a negative feedback loop for Ca2 levels
in the blood include the three acting hormones,
hypo and hypercalcemia and resorption and
    deposition
