Motion
  • An object in motion is constantly changing
position. Position means the location of an
object. In other words an object has moved when
    its position has changed.

7
Motion
  • How do you know if an object has moved?
  • How can you tell that its position has changed?

The objects position will have changed.
By comparing the objects location to other
objects around it.
8
Point of Reference
  • We can tell that an object has moved by comparing
it to other objects, or a point of reference.
  • We can tell the lamp has moved by comparing it to
    the table.

What object was the point of reference in this
illustration?
The lamp is on the table.
The lamp is beside the table.
9
How do we know that the bicycle has moved?
What objects were the points of reference in
this illustration?
10
Force
  • What makes an object move? Force! A force is a
push or pull. It can cause an object to start or
stop moving. Force can also change the speed or
    direction of a moving object.
  • What force causes the ball to move?
  • Is it a push or a pull?
  • What would the ball do if this force had not been
    applied?

11
Friction
  • Friction- a force that works against motion- when
objects touch and/or rub together friction slows
the object down or even stops it
  • The brakes on a bicycle cause friction, allowing
the bicycle to slow down or stop

12
Gravity
  • Gravity- a force that pulls objects together
objects with more mass have a stronger pull it
is also stronger when objects are closer together
  • Gravity causes apples to fall from trees because
the mass of the Earth is so much greater than the
    mass of the apples

13

Dear Princess Reagan, EDP stands for Engineering
Design Process. The EDP is the process your
spies used to get this letter to you. The steps
of the EDP are Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create,
Improve. You are still stuck in the EDP Tower for
eternity but now at least you know what EDP
stands for. Sincerely, Court Jester Doig
