Balance
  • Equilibrium or steadiness among the parts of a
design. It is the visual distribution of weight.
  • Formal balance symmetrical

4
Proportion
  • The spacial, or size, relationship of all of the
parts in a design to each other and to the whole.
    Also called scale.
  • Body is 8 heads tall. 3/8 is waist to top of
head. 5/8 is from waist down. Styles that
complement that natural figure are more
flattering and stay in style longer.

5
Emphasis
  • Concentration of interest in a particular part or
area of a design. One part is more important or
more noticeable, it is the center of the outfit.
  • It is best to have one area of interest.

6
Rhythm
  • The pleasing arrangement of the design elements
so the eye moves well over the apparel. It
directs the flow of eye movement.
  • Repetition Can be a repeat of lines, shapes,
    colors, or textures
  • Gradation Also called progression. An increase
    or decrease in design elements.
  • TransitionA fluid rhythm created when a curved
line leads the eye over an angle.
  • Opposition hen lines meet to form right angles.
  • Radial Arrangement Line come from a central
    point.
