  • The gaseous envelope surrounding the earth the
    air.

Low Pressure
  • Air rises in low pressure systems
  • When the air rises it condenses into clouds and
    rain, snow, sleet.

Rain and Storms
  • Rain and storms are the result of a low pressure
    system.

  • Increased water vapor creates clouds during a low
    pressure system

High Pressure
  • Often occurs when there is uneven heating of the
    ground.
  • Causes the hot air to rise and spread out.
  • Associated with clear, cool weather.
  • Can cause cold snaps
  • Unseasonably cold and sunny weather are observed.
  • Clear skies are indicative of a high pressure
    system
