• Communication competence is the ability to
  achieve ones goals in a manner that, ideally,
  maintains or enhances the relationship in which
  the communication occurs.

• A wide range of behaviors
• Ability to choose the right behavior
• Skill at performing the behavior

• Cognitive complexity (the intellectual ability to
  see issues from different perspectives)
