What are they called?

• They are both relative pronouns they replace a
  noun that has been mentioned before AND work as
  connectives too.
• This is the pen which I love writing with.
• We are two friends who are travelling together.

When do we use qui?

• Qui is the subject of the second sentence.
• Le joueur de foot qui est le meilleur est celui
  qui marque des buts!
• The football player who is the best is the one
  who scores!
• La chanson qui me fait pleurer vient de passer à
  la radio.
• The song that makes me cry has just been played
  on the radio.

When do we use que?

• Que is the object of the second sentence.
• Le livre que je lis est formidable.
• The book that I am reading is great.
• La pomme que jai mangée était délicieuse.
• The apple that I ate was delicious.

Ce qui, ce que

• They work on the same pattern, but tend to be at
  the beginning of a sentence.
• Ce que je veux, cest du silence!
• What I want is silence!
• Ce qui est drôle, cest que tu aimes Cliff
  Richard!
• What is funny is that you like Cliff Richard!
