Title: I think it

1
I think its great to turn ordinary maths into
fun maths.
  • By Rachael

2
Our first role play area.
3
Using timetables
4
Oh no! The trains delayed!
5
Our second area was linked to Wreck of the
Zanzibar and Why the Whales Came
6
This was used for problem solving activities.
  • Capacity Problem
  •
  • In the chest are a number of containers that you
    have managed to rescue.
  • You have estimated that each person will need at
least a litre and a half of water a day. There
are 35 people who have been rescued.
  • How many times will you need to walk to the river
in order to fill up with water if you cant carry
more than 5kg at a time?

7
Our third go has been the best and we have kept
it for longer.
8
At the Travel Agents.
9
Why it has been the best
  • The children created the whole area.
  • They have experience of going into the travel
    agents.
  • We have props!!! (although the till is driving me
    mad!)
  • They have actual brochures to work from.
  • They have been using the internet for real-life
    information.

10
Holiday Booking in costume! This was chosen as a
golden time activity.
  • We want a holiday for two on Greek Island for 10
    nights!

11
Right Madam! Can I recommend Corfu?
  • This was then priced up and the children
continued in role to find the times of flights
and distance from home to the airport.

Setting up a role play corner
  • It does not have to have an amazing framework or
    mini building.
  • It could be a chair with a display board behind
    it.
  • A tiny bit of money helps.
  • The childrens imaginations will create the
    scene.
  • The I can statements and assessment for
learning questions are very useful when setting
    up activities.
