Birth Interval Preferences in Côte dIvoire 1994
  • Ivoirienne women have shorter the birth intervals
    than they prefer. On average, they prefer to
    have their births spaced by 38 months. Actual
    median birth interval is 32 months, 6 months
    shorter.
  • Women in the South region prefer to have birth
    intervals of almost 10 months longer on average
    than they have.

  • In Côte dIvoire few women prefer very short
    birth intervals, only 12 want births with less
    than 2 years spacing but 44 prefer an interval
    of less than 3 years
  • For Côte dIvoire as a whole, 21 percent of women
    have intervals shorter than 24 months, 9 percent
    more than preferred.
  • 61 percent of Ivoirienne women have intervals
    shorter than 36 months, 17 percent more than
    those who prefer such intervals.
