What is JAG

• Joint Advisory Group
• Set up 1994
• Through Acadamy of Royal Medical Colleges
• RCsP, RCsS, RCR and RCGP
• Committees
• Primarily executive committee
• Agrees and sets policy and strategy
• Advises its constituent bodies and DH, GMC, NHS,
  etc
• Administration Team
• Based at RCPLond

What JAG Does

• Initially aimed at Doctors in training
• Greater emphasis on improved standards for
  training and education. 
• Nurse endoscopists becoming a highly significant
  part of the workforce. 
• Acceptance that high quality training can largely
  only take place in high quality units. 
• Realisation that the impact of service cannot be
  removed from having an influence on training. 
• Implementation of bowel cancer screening for the
  UK, for which JAG was asked to oversee quality of
  endoscopists and of endoscopy units. 
• Implementation of unit accreditation across all
  sectors.
