  • William Patrick Kinsella, OC, OBC (born May 25,
    1935) is a Canadian novelist and short story
    writer who is well-known for his novel Shoeless
    Joe (1982) which was adapted into the movie Field
    of Dreams in 1989. His work has often concerned
    baseball, which is a significant part of all of
    his novels. His work also concerned Canada's
    First Nations and other Canadian issues.

MARGARET LAURENCE
  • Born in Neepawa, Manitoba, Laurence was the
    daughter of solicitor Robert Wemyss and Verna
    Jean Simpson. Following the death of her mother
    when Laurence was four, Margaret Simpson, a
    maternal aunt, came to take care of the family. A
    year later, Simpson married her father and in
    1933 they had a son, Robert. In 1935, Robert
    Wemyss Sr. died of pneumonia.
