• Objective
• Estimate total oil production rate of all well up
  to 10 years using only the first 3 years (1 to
  1,096 days) of production data
• Calculate the l2-norm of the estimation errors

• Decline curve Linear regression
• Linear regression is the most common method of
  forecasting production, especially in this
  situation
• Reasons for using it
• There is currently a swing toward decline rates
  proportional to production rates because of lower
  and lower productivity wells coming on stream
• If the conditions affecting the rate of
  production of the well are not changed by outside
  influences, the curve will be fairly regular
