Unpacking the Standards

Your Group

• On a piece of notebook paper, assign the
  following roles within your group
• Leader Keeps the group on task and focused.
• Researcher Uses the thesaurus and dictionary to
  help the group.
• Recorder Writes down all information.
• Speaker Shares the information with the class.

Your Work Session

• In your group, use a thesaurus and/or dictionary
  to look up confusing or complicated words within
  the standard you have been given.
• Using these words, re-write the standard into a
  sentence that you and your peers can easily
  understand onto a piece of notebook paper.
• When your group is done, raise your hand, and I
  will bring you a sentence strip and a marker.
• Write your unpacked standard onto the sentence
  strip.
• Be prepared to share with the class.
