Characteristics

• Though many people are confused on this subject,
  being a desert has little to do with the
  temperature of a place.
• The largest desert in the world is Antarctica!
• A desert is a place that has little or no
  precipitation.
• What is precipitation?
• Precipitation is any moisture that comes from the
  sky, which can include rain, hail, snow, and
  sleet.

• In deserts, the temperature during the day and
  the temperature during the night are really
  different.
• Deserts cover about one third of the land on the
  Earth.
• The largest cold desert is Antarctica and the
  largest hot desert is the Sahara. Where is the
  Sahara located?
