The Philippines is culturally and historically
rich country. Here are some historic monuments
from across the archipelago which serves as
reminders of the rich culture and history of the
country.

Jose Rizal Monument
  • Rizal Park is situated in the heart of the city
    of Manila, the capital of the Philippines,
    overlooking Manila Bay.
  • Significant moment in Philippine history with
    this monument is the execution of Dr. Jose Rizal
    on December 30, 1896, whose martyred death made
    him a hero of the Philippine Revolution.
  • It was officially renamed Rizal Park in tribute
    to him the Declaration of Philippine
    Independence from American rule on June 4, 1946
    and the political rallies of Ferdinand Marcos and
    Corazon Aquino in 1986.
  • The monument also serves as the point of origin
    or Kilometer Zero to all other cities in the
    Philippines.

Ninoy Aquiino Monument
  • Because of Ninoy Aquinos heroism, the Ninoy
    Aquino Monument was built in the corner of Ayala
    Avenue and Paseo de Roxas in his honor.
  • The Ninoy Aquino Monument is a bronze monument by
    sculptor Peter de Guzman which commemorates the
    slain of former senator and Filipino hero Benigno
    Ninoy S. Aquino Jr.
  • Ninoy Aquino was assassinated in 1983 at the
    Manila International Airport.

Andres Bonifacio Monument
  • The Andrés Bonifacio monument with the 45-foot
    pylon and figures cast in bronze is located in
    Caloocan City, Metro Manila at the intersections
    of Samson Road, McArthur Highway, Rizal Avenue
    and Epifanio de los Santos (EDSA) Highway.
  • This "Monumento" was designed and completed in
    1933 by the country's National Artist for the
    Visual Arts (Sculpture) in 1973, Guillermo
    Estrella Tolentino.
  • It is his sculptural masterpiece portraying
    numerous figures around an obelisk that includes
    events leading up to the formation of the
    revolutionary group named "Kataastaasang
    Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng
    Bayan" or Katipunan/KKK for short led by Andres
    Bonifacio.

McArthur Monument
  • Situated in Red Beach, Palo, Leyte, the monument
    marks the spot where General Douglas MacArthur
    landed with the American Liberation Forces in
    1944.
  • The statues of the liberators stand in a lagoon,
    1.5 times bigger than lifesize.
  • It is also the site of the 50th Leyte Landing
    Anniversary Commemorative Rock Garden of Peace.
  • A beautiful beach can be found in the area.

People Power Monument
  • The People Power Monument is a sculpture of
    towering people commemorating the People
    Revolution located corner of Epifanio De Los
    Santos Avenue or EDSA and White Plains Avenue in
    Quezon City.
  • Interestingly, this sculpture, named People
    Power, was created in 1993 by Ed Castrillo, that
    same guy that did the sculpture at the heart of
    Pinaglabanan Shrine, which I featured a few days
    ago.

Lapu Lapu Monument
  • The statue is the monument that marks the site
    where Lapu-Lapu (Muslim) purportedly killed
    Magellan in 1521.
  • Lapu-Lapu's Monument in Mactan Island, was
    erected in honor of the first Filipino Chieftain
    who fought for his people's freedom.
  • Lapu-Lapu (Kaliph Pulaka)- Muslim (born 1491,
    died 1542) known as the first native of the
    archipelago to have resisted Spanish
    colonization, he is now regarded as the first
    National hero of the Philippines.
