Folk-songs

• Our homework is dedicated to our national
  folklore folk-songs. In Latvia folk-songs are
  called dainas.
• They lead us from our birth until our lives end.
• Latvian folk-songs include persons life, joy,
  worries, love, work, nature and social life.

Reasons

• While reading folk-songs we become closer to our
  beautiful Latvia,our beautiful language. We
  understand life's basis.

Folk-song meaning

• Folk-songs gave our nation strength, help and joy
  in difficult social historical situations
  beginning from the 13 th century.
• Folk-song charm and strength is in naturalism,
  sincerity and therapy (folk music and tale
  therapy).

Folk-song father

• Krisjanis Barons is considered to be the greatest
  folk-song explorer and collector of Latvian
  folk-songs.

Books and Cabinet

• There are special published volumes named
  Latvian folk-songs, which include 217 ,996
  folk-songs.
• A special folk-song cabinet with 70 drawers was
  made. In 2001 it became Latvias cultural symbol
  and was included in UNESCO world memory list.

Anniversary

• In 2010 Latvia celebrated K. Barons
  anniversary,he was 175 years old.
• For this anniversary in Latvia a special park was
  laid out . It was devoted to songs. And Hotel
  Latvia facade was decorated with texts from
  folk-songs.

Our school and languages

• Our school works in two languages. There are
  classes where students learn in their native
  language (it is Russian) and other students learn
  in Latvian. So we have 2 language teaching in our
  school.
• All of the school activities and events are based
  on Latvian and Russian traditions and folklore.

• 2010 was dedicated on national songs and we
  widely used them in our activities.
• We have a folklore song group, a choir and a
  dance ensemble.

Importance of Folk-Songs

• Latvian folk-songs are widely used in explorative
  objects for linguists, scientists and
  folklorists.
• We research folklore on project days at school.
• Our schools teachers and students participate in
  Song and Dance Festivals for schools,which take
  place every 4 year.
