What are they looking for?
  • Write in voice and style appropriate to audience
    and purpose
  • Organization of ideas (looking for coherence,
    logical progression, and support for ideas)
  • Developed drafts by organizing/reorganizing for
    content/style (to suit occasion, audience, and
    purpose)
  • Proofread writing for appropriateness (of
    organization, content, style, and conventions)
  • Evaluated writing for mechanics and content
  • Legible work (with accurate spelling and correct
    use of punctuation and capitalization)
  • Control over grammatical elements
  • Increased use of complex sentences

  • Write about a time that you had to forget
    yourself.

Where to do we go from here?
  • March 5th - TAKS TEST
  • Strategies for doing well on the essay
  • Look over the prompt when you get your test. If
    you have ideas, jot them down immediately. Begin
    prewriting if youve got something good.
  • Read the reading piece to get ideas that could go
    with the prompt.
  • Make sure to write a 1st draft, revise, and then
    write a final draft on the scantron.
