  • Essentially the same as MSUs however UM tends
    to focus more on growing Montana companies than
    on maximizing returns to the University

Purity Systems, Inc.
  • Private Missoula company funded be two local
    businessmen.
  • Technology from UM Chemistry Department stable,
    reusable resins to remove heavy metals (lead,
    chromium, copper, etc.) from water.
  • Uses- 1) Final scrubbing of water before
    returning to environment 2) Purify drinking
    water 3) To mine low concentrations of
    valuable metals.

PSI, continued
  • PSI licensed and paid for US and International
    filings of 3 UM patents, funded research at UM
    for 5 years, and employs 5 people in Missoula.
  • PSI was (is) the anchor tenant at MonTEC.
  • PSI has business agreements with companies in
    China, Taiwan, and Australia, in addition to the
    USA.

Bee Alert Technologies, Inc.,S K Electronics,
andNunza/Sunseeds
  • Two privately held Montana companies and an
    international Dutch company.
  • Technology covers methods and devices to train
    honey bees to locate specific chemical odors.
  • Uses
  • 1) Locate IEDs, land mines, bomb
    factories, and people/vehicles transporting
    explosives.

  • 2) Enhance crop pollination.
  • 3) Locate chemical of interest i.e., meth labs,
    bodies, etc.
  • 4) Use as environmental sentinels.
  • Two UM patents have been paid for by licensees,
    in addition to funding research.
  • Several million of development have come into
    Montana.
  • Four licenses and one option have been granted on
    the basic technologies.

Roscoe Steel and Culvert Co.
  • Licensed a UM patent from DBS on technology to
    assist small animals to cross roads.
  • Solves an EPA problem with highway construction
    projects.
  • Patent covers a shelf for larger animals and a
    tube for small animals that can be installed as
    OEM in new culverts or retrofitted into existing
    culverts.

    equipment.
  • Marketing roll-out is scheduled for this
    winter.
