3CARNAVAL IS A TWO WEEK LONG CELEBRATION BEFORE
LENT. MEXICANS JOKE THAT CARNAVAL MEANS "CARNE
VA" OR MEAT GO (PEOPLE OFTEN GIVE UP MEAT FOR
LENT. IT IS SIMILAR TO OUR MARDI GRAS. PEOPLE
PARTY IN THE STREETS, HAVE CARNIVALS THAT TRAVEL
AROUND, HAVE LARGE FEASTS, AND PARTICIPATE IN
MANY OLD TRADITIONS. IT IS A TIME TO BE MERRY AND
HAVE FUN.
4THE ORIGIN OF THESE WILD CELEBRATIONS DATES BACK
TO THE 12TH CENTURY WHEN THE POPE AND WEALTHY
MEMBERS OF CATHOLIC CHURCH PARADED THROUGH THE
STREETS. THEY BUTCHERED MANY STEERS AND OTHER
ANIMALS AND HAD A HUGE FEAST BEFORE THEY GAVE UP
MEAT FOR LENT. IT HAS NOW SPREAD TO MANY
COUNTRIES ALL OVER THE WORLD.
5CARNAVAL IS CELEBRATED IN MANY COUNTRIES
INCLUDING MEXICO.

7ME GUSTARÍA VISITAR MÉXICO DURANTE EL CARNAVAL.
YO CREO QUE EL CARNAVAL ES DIVERTIDO. LOS
DESFILES DE CARNAVAL ESTAN MUY BONITOS. CREO QUE
LAS COMIDAS ESTÁN DELICIOSAS. ME GUSTA VER LA
CORRIDA DE TOROS.
