Title: CD Accelerator Activities Meeting

1
CD Accelerator Activities Meeting
  • Update on SMTF activities

2
Update on recent SMTF activities
  • Capture Cavity 2 Test
  • Two DESY cavity controller modules SIMCON2.1
    assembled and tested.
  • A SIMCON2.1 test stand running cavity controller
and simulator is functioning at FCC (ESE test
    area).
  • DESY DAC8 Function generators have been tested
and will be integrated to CC2 system.
  • Simcon2.1 firmware (10K VHDL lines) has been
compiled using an old version of
    Leonardo Spectrum.
  • Simcon2.1 software
  • Currently running a Matlab-based application.
  • Two Sparc stations running DOOCS.
  • Ron and Luciano are still working to get some
application modules to talk to the hardware,
    server, etc.

Capture Cavity 2 Test
  • SIMCON2.1 production
  • About half of the production has been launched.
The other half is waiting funding. DESY may buy
    10 Xilinx development kits (25K).
  • ESS group will collaborate with assembly and
    testing.
  • CC2 setup will be modified to run at 3.9 GHz by
Jan/Feb 06. Most of the LLRF system stays the
same. The master oscillator is being designed to
operate at 1.3 and 3.9 GHz.
  • Plan to install an injector, RF gun, and a couple
of cavities at Meson Lab (2006).
  • Plan to install an Horizontal Test Facility and a
Vertical Test Facility at IB1 (Industrial
    Building 1).

6
SMTF activities at CD
  • Next Milestone Control of full cryogenic module
with 8 cavities. (end of 2006 or 2007).
  • Cavity control algorithms Explore models.
  • Cavity control hardware and firmware
  • ILC and TESLA hardware will diverge. We want to
start a developing a cavity controller.
  • Evaluate control algorithms in processor and FPGA
    platforms.
  • New tool MatlabSimulinkSys_Gen implements
    Maltab code into VHDL.
  • Cavity control simulations Cavity control
    algorithms.
  • Feedback control algorithms are based on cavity
models and signal disturbances. This is a
complicated problem because the cavities interact
with each other. The control problem is most
    likely nonlinear and Multi-output multi-input).
More than one control loop will be needed. We
must incorporate Beam loading, and detuning into
    the control strategies.

7
SMTF activities at CD
  • DAQ What hardware is needed?
  • Can we buy off-the-shelf or use available
    hardware like PTA2?
  • Application software. BPM applications will
    certainly help.
  • Slow Control and Interlocks
  • We are already collaborating with P.Prieto. This
    collaboration could grow.
  • Timing hardware
  • M.Krucera is providing the timing hardware for
CC2. B.Haynes has designed timing hardware for
TeV and MI BPMs. We could collaborate in the
    future.
  • Proton Driver SCREAM
  • SCREAM is a Matlab based software that simulates
the complete Linac. CD is participating in this
effort. Some framework commonality with ILC but
    very different parameters.
