Inside your school building
  • GFCI Detector
  • Any outlet within 6 of a grounding source (i.e.,
    sinks, drinking fountains) must be GFCI
    protected.
  • Available at hardware stores for 7-8
  • Thermometer
  • Water temperature must be no more than 120F.,
    and no less than 100F for showers.
  • Available at restaurant supply stores or grocery
    stores

  • Light Meters (intensity requirements vary)
  • Storage areas, hallways and restroom areas 10
    footcandles
  • Gym , shower and locker rooms 20 footcandles
  • Classrooms and music rooms 30 footcandles
  • Science lab areas 50 footcandles
  • Shops, art and sewing areas 50 footcandles
  • Available at camera and electronics stores and
    on-line (e-bay has lots!) for 59 to 575

Lighting tips
  • Fluorescent lights may lose power over time.
  • Dont block lights with hanging items, such as
    art work.
  • Rearrange the furniture.
  • Open blinds and curtains.
  • Add task lighting (be sure to secure power
    cords).
  • Add larger fixtures or higher wattage light bulbs
    (within manufacturer limits).

  • For equipment such as vents for kilns and paint
    booths
  • Available on-line for 7
  • Science demonstration hoods should be checked
    quarterly for proper flow (60-125 lfm).
  • Seek professional help

    measurements
  • Depth must be 6 to 12 for pea gravel and
    engineered wood fiber

  • Head entrapment tools

    inches, head probe 9 inches
