  inventor unclear)
• Unsubstatiated claims that is was invented in
  1200s when optical principles were explained
• 1625, Galileo Galilei began using a microscope
• 1644, the first published description of tissues
• Giambattista Odierna's L'occhio della mosca
• 1665, Robert Hooke publishes Micrographia
  (collection of micrographs).
• Coins the word cell 
•  1674, Antonie van Leeuwenhoek discovers red
  blood cells and sperm 
• 1676, Van Leeuwenhoek reported the discovery of
  micro-organisms.

Rules for microscope use

1. ALWAYS carry with two hands one on base, one on
   arm
2. ALWAYS begin and end with the low power lens in
   place
3. ALWAYS begin and end with the stage completely
   lowered
4. NEVER use course focus with the high power lens
