LCLS vacuum chamber current status

  • All 41 chambers are fully machined.
  • 41 chambers have been welded.
  • 35 chambers were inspected, baked, certified and
    shipped to SLAC.
  • The rest of the chambers will be shipped to SLAC
    before 05/10/08.

LCLS vacuum chamber adjustment and wall thickness
inspection
  • After changing of the chamber design and
    adjusting system design
  • chamber alignment usually took about 4 hours.
  • Wall thickness variation for the most of the
    chambers is within 40µ.
  • Some results of the vacuum chamber inspection
    are shown on
  • the next slides

9
Surface Finish Summary
  • The average of all vacuum chambers is 14.86 mrad
    in Z' and 35.14 mrad in X'
  • Extrusions 7, 10, 16, 28 and 35 were sacrificed
to verify surface finish in the middle of the
    extrusions

End bi-metal flange welding
All bi-metal flanges were polished, inspected and
welded
12
Inspection and correction of the LCLS VC end
flange perpendicularity (.003 - .004 precision)
13
Inspection of the total length of the LCLS VC
Initial attempt to inspect the vacuum chamber
length using caliper, gage block and filler gage
failed.
Finally length of the all vacuum chambers after
welding was measured successfully using laser
tracker.

CONCLUSION
  • Manufacturing and certification of the LCLS
vacuum chambers is proceeding with the full
agreement with our schedule and within the
    allocated budget.
  • We plan to deliver all LCLS VC to SLAC before
    05/10/2008
