4. Fort Duquesne near British territory

• Native Americans nervous about expansion of
  colonists past Appalachians
• Proclamation of 1763 forbid settlement west of
  Appalachians
• Colonists angered by this
• Colonists also nervous about continued military
  presence of British
• War leads to debt and British cracking down on
  smuggling in colonies, increasing taxes
