• Born into a Puritan family in England
• Migrated to America when she was 16
• Both her husband and her father served as
  governors of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
• Raised 8 children and wrote poetry. She never
  sought publication.
• Was well received even though she was a woman.
• Subjects were about daily life through the lens
  of her Puritan beliefs.
• Her poetry was brought to attention by her
  brouther-in-law.
