THE FIREARM ACT IN ANTIGUA
  • The laws in Antigua and Barbuda governing
firearms stipulates that every firearm coming
into the country must be marked by the
manufacture with the manufactures name logo or
stamp. The firearm must contain information
written on the frame of the firearm e.g.

THE FIREARM ACT IN ANTIGUA
  • The manufacturing country
  • Serial number
  • Model
  • Calibre of the firearm
  • Apart from this there are no other laws or
statute when comes to marking firearms in Antigua
    and Barbuda

5
REQUIREMENTS
  • We as law enforcement officers in Antigua and
Barbuda believe that there should be statute in
place or the laws be amended that requires every
firearm dealer and law enforcement agencies in
    Antigua and Barbuda to include
  • Army,
  • Police
  • Office of National Drug and Control Policy
    (ONDCP)
  • All shooting clubs

6
REQUIREMENTS CONTD
  • Should have a peculiar mark which will allow the
Police to trace the firearm in locally regionally
and internationally in case of any eventualities
    .
  • For example the Antigua Police Force firearm
    should be marked

7
Recommended markings
  • For example the Antigua Police Force firearm
    should be marked,
  • ANU-POL-1 and the number should continue
  • Army ANU- ARMY- 1
  • Firearm Dealer initials- ANU- 1
  • Shooting Clubs Sharp Shooters- ANU-1
  • These markings should be on the frame of the
firearm and also the bolt in case of
    interchanging of bolts.

conclusion
  • In Antigua and Barbuda we are face with a number
of gun crimes. participating in this seminar
would aid in increasing our knowledge within the
field of firearm markings. One of our major
challenge is the flare gun where all contained
the same model number which makes it difficult
for identification. So marking these flare guns
will be a great help to us. This seminar is a
timely one and invaluable to our police force and
    the region on a whole.
