Beginnings

• Born in Boston, one of seventeen children.
• Never received a formal educationleft school at
  age 10.
• Apprenticed in a print shop under his older
  brother, James.

• Left Boston for Philadelphia at 17, in hopes of
  opening his own print shop, and to get away from
  his brother.

• Franklin was accomplished in many different areas
  such as writing, science, philosophy, and
  politics.

• Published Poor Richards Alamanack from
  1733-1758. The publication contained
  information, observations, and advice.
• It was written under the pseudonym Richard
  Saunders (with contributions from his wife
  Bridget Saunders)
