• Monarchy overthrown again
• Another provisional (temporary) government is set
  up by moderates
• New Government
• The Constituent Assembly
• Granted universal male suffrage
• Organized workshops so unemployed could find
  work
• Causes government treasury to empty
• Revolution
• Workers take to the streets and are put down by
  government forces
• Many sent to prisons in the French colony of
  Algeria

• After the failed revolution a new government was
  set up
• Charles Louis Napoleon Bonaparte is elected
  President of France
• Like his uncle, he asks for a plebiscite to make
  himself emperor

The Austrian Empire

• The Austrian Empire consisted of people from many
  backgrounds
• Germans, Czechs, Hungarians, Slovaks, Romanians,
  Slovenes, Poles, Croats, Serbians, Italians.
• Many of the groups wanted their own state
• Italians, Czechs, Hungary (Granted independence)
• NATIONALISM DIVIDES IN THE BALKANS
