- Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you whom I love,
and whom I love I also chasten that their sins
may be forgiven, for with the chastisement I
prepare a way for their deliverance in all things
out of temptation, and I have loved you - Wherefore, ye must needs be chastened and stand
rebuked before my face - For ye have sinned against me a very grievous
sin, in that ye have not considered the great
commandment in all things, - that I have given unto you concerning the
building of mine house - For the preparation wherewith I design to prepare
mine apostles to prune my vineyard for the last
time, that I may bring to pass my strange act,
that I may pour out my Spirit upon all flesh
13The purpose?
- DC 958
- Yea, verily I say unto you, I gave unto you a
commandment that you should build a house, in the
which house I design to endow those whom I have
chosen with power from on high
Question So what endowment is the
lord Referring to, to be received in the Kirtland
temple?
Question When and where was the Temple Endowment
Received?
14One EndowmentDedicatory Prayer
- And we ask thee, Holy Father,
that thy servants may go forth
from this house armed with
thy power, and that thy name may be
upon them, and thy glory be round about them, and
thine angels have charge over them - And from this place they may bear exceedingly
great and glorious tidings, in truth, unto the
ends of the earth, that they may know that this
is thy work, and that thou hast put forth thy
hand, to fulfil that which thou hast spoken by
the mouths of the prophets, concerning the last
days.
15Elder Oaks
- The Prophet Joseph Smith reminded us
that "God dwells in eternity, and does not
view things as we do." 1 That insight helps
us understand why the Lord would refer to
his great latter-day work as bringing to pass
my act, my strange act, and performing my work,
my strange work. - It also helps us understand what the Lord said
about the building of Zion "Zion cannot be built
up unless it is by the principles of the law of
the celestial kingdom otherwise I cannot receive
her unto myself. The Lords Way, Introduction
16Second Endowing at Kirtland, Section 110
- We saw the Lord standing upon the breastwork of
the pulpit... his voice was as the sound of the
rushing of great waters, even the voice of
Jehovah, saying - Yea the hearts of thousands and tens of thousands
shall greatly rejoice in consequence of the
blessings which shall be poured out, and the
endowment with which my servants have been
endowed in this house. - and this is the beginning of the blessing which
shall be poured out upon the heads of my people. - After this vision closed, the heavens were again
opened unto us and Moses appeared before us, and
committed unto us the keys of the gathering of
Israel - After this, Elias appeared, and committed the
dispensation of the gospel of Abraham, saying
that in us and our seed all generations after us
should be blessed. - After this vision had closed, another great and
glorious vision burst upon us for Elijah the
prophet, who was taken to heaven without tasting
death, stood before us - To turn the hearts of the fathers to the
children, and the children to the fathers, lest
the whole earth be smitten with a curse
17Hearts
- In answer to the question, "How shall
God come to the rescue of this generation?"
the Prophet responded, "He will send Elijah
the prophet . . . who shall reveal
the covenants to seal the hearts of the
fathers to the children, and the children to
the fathers. - "The first thing you do, go and seal on earth
your sons and your daughters unto yourself." By
so doing, families "may be sealed and saved, that
they may be prepared against the day that the
destroying angel goes forth. - Robert L. Millet, Kent P. Jackson, Studies
in Scripture, Vol. 1 The Doctrine and
Covenants (Salt Lake City Deseret Book Co.,
1989)
18Question,
- How does being born under the covenant assist
children that they may be prepared against the
day that the destroying angel goes forth?
