Storage Devices
  • One of the major advances in laptop and desktop
computers is the variety and the availability of
cheap, large, and fast storage devices. It is not
usual today to see 40-200 GB storage drives. This
in turn allows the generation of large digital
images, flash animation, mp3 and mp4 music and
videos. It has created much more interesting web
sites, created new markets e.g. iPODs, and
    imaging and video editing software.

What is a directory?
  • A directory of the major storage devices Note
that this window indicates that the computer has
    the following storage devices
  • 3 1/2 floppy disk (A), See that the lab1
directory is located on this drive,
  • hard drive (C),
  • zip disk-- Removable Disk (D),
  • CD-ROM -- Jpfd (E)
  • Clicking on any of these storage devices icons
would expose their directories (folders). If we
click lab1 which is shown as the only sub
directory of the A drive, we would expose its
contents of files and sub directories.
  • By Clicking the Folder icon with the up arrow we
go up in the directory tree one level.
