When planning for a year, plant corn, When
planning for a decade, plant trees. When
planning for life, train and educate people.

My educational philosophy
  • Teachers must help students achieve a
knowledge base, to take them forward as
productive members in society, and help them to
move from novices to experts in whatever area of
study they are pursuing. Students must seize the
educational opportunities given to them and learn
as much as they can. When this bond is formed
leaders capable of taking us into the future will
    be created.

BPSI Theory
  • What is the BPSI Theory?
  • Why is this theory important to students?
  • Why is this theory important to teachers?
  • What is multiple intelligence theory?
  • What is the ARCS model of motivation?

5
What is BPSI?
  • Bidos personalized system of instruction has
its foundation on Fred Kellers 1968 approach to
college instruction that was based on behavioral
    principles (Keller,1968).
  • It combines Howard Gardners multiple
intelligence theory and John M. Kellers ARCS
    model of motivation.

6
What is BPSI?
  • Personalized system of instruction
  • - Keller noted problems with group instruction
  • - Delays in reinforcing achievement
  • - Students were progressing without mastery of
  • material
  • - Broken to units each having behavioral
    objectives
  • - Units correspond with chapters in book
  • - Sequential

7
What is BPSI?
  • Personalized System of Instruction
    Characteristics
  • - 1. Emphasis on individual study
  • - 2. Self pacing
  • - 3. Unit Mastery
  • - 4. Use of proctor
  • - 5. Supplementary instructional technique

BPSI Theory
  • Why is this theory important to students?
  • - It uses the students learning style to help
    facilitate learning
  • - It allows the student to work at his/her pace
  • Why is this theory important to teachers?
  • - It allows the teacher to make sure that mastery
    is achieve
  • - It uses the students learning style to help
    facilitate teaching
  • - The teacher will be using the ARCS Model of
    motivation to ensure
  • learning

BPSI Theory
  • What is multiple intelligence theory?
  • This theory of human intelligence, developed by
psychologist Howard Gardner, suggests there are
at least seven ways that people have of
perceiving and understanding the world. Gardner
labels each of these ways a distinct
"intelligence"--in other words, a set of skills
allowing individuals to find and resolve genuine
    problems they face (Funderstanding, 2001).

BPSI Theory
  • What is multiple intelligence theory?
  • Verbal-Linguistic--The ability to use words and
    language
  • Logical-Mathematical--The capacity for inductive
and deductive thinking and reasoning, as well as
the use of numbers and the recognition of
    abstract patterns
  • Visual-Spatial--The ability to visualize objects
and spatial dimensions, and create internal
    images and pictures
  • Body-Kinesthetic--The wisdom of the body and the
    ability to control physical motion
  • Musical-Rhythmic--The ability to recognize tonal
patterns and sounds, as well as a sensitivity to
    rhythms and beats
  • Interpersonal--The capacity for person-to-person
    communications and relationships
  • Intrapersonal--The spiritual, inner states of
    being, self-reflection, and awareness

BPSI Theory
  • What is the ARCS Model of Motivation?
  • John M. Keller proposed four conditions that
must be met for a learner to be motivated to
    learn. Attention, relevance, confidence, and
satisfaction (ARCS) are the conditions that must
be met in order to motivate someone to learn
    (Driscoll, 2000) .
