1Mrs. Jones Weekly NewsJanuary 25, 2013
Language Arts We are truly enjoying this next
unit all about What can I learn when I explore
the outdoors. We have been learning all about
the 4 seasons and the weather. Our Focus
Question this week is What weather can I observe
as the seasons change. ? Also, this weeks
reading strategy has been all about Making
Connections? Please continue to make connections
at home as you read together with your child too.
Letters for the Week We are working on
Letter Oo and Nn and identifying these sounds in
the beginning, middle, and end of words. Plus,
we are working on onset rhyme with the endings
-OT -OP -ON -OX Have fun making up words at
home with these endings too. Just For Your
Information I just wanted to let you know that
this week we had a RED alert practice drill and
last week we had a WHITE alert practice drill
at school. These are safety drills and
procedures that we have put in place so that we
all can remain SAFE if a medical emergency or
other situation should arise. For a white
drillwe stay in our classroom. For a red
drillwe all go into the classroom closet (which
is actually the size of a small classroom) ?
Thought you might want to be aware of our
classroom terminology for these practice drills
at school.
- Math
- This week we had so much fun with estimation for
length, surface area, and weight. We loved using
our balance scale and did a great job on our
measurement test! ? WEIGH to go on Measurement
Tests! Next unit will be all about Time! - Readers Club
- We have been working on all kinds of stories
about Weather and the Seasons during our small
group reading time. Ask your kiddo about the two
books they read this week. We also worked on our
sight words by playing a memory card matching
word game. We illustrated and wrote about our
favorite weather and season. Keep working on
those reading and writing skills at home too. At
the listening center we had a great new book
called Hibernation Station what was your kiddos
favorite part? Next week we will be working on
more writing activities and sight word practice.
- Martin Luther King Jr
- This week we were able to learn all about this
important man in history and how he helped pave
the way so that all people would be treated
equally. We enjoyed hearing a special story,
singing a special song, and doing a few other
projects and activities too. Plus, we also
talked about the inaugural presidential ceremony
