Mans Impact on Earths Resources
2
Ozone Layer
  • Things to consider while listening to Tim and
    Moby!
  • Benefits of the Ozone Layer
  • Effects of Ozone Layer Depletion/Thinning

3
Why Recycle???
  • Reduce waste DUH!!!
  • Oh and to be
  • this guy

4
Its all connected...
  • Rising sea levels
  • Number of tropical storms
  • Global Warming
  • Global warming is the primary cause of current
    sea level rise
  • Human activities, such as burning coal and oil
and cutting down tropical forests, have increased
    atmospheric concentrations of heat-trapping
gases and caused the planet to warm by 1.4
    degrees Fahrenheit since 1880.

5
Even Earthquakes
  • While it's difficult to definitively link an
earthquake to human activity scientists have
found compelling evidence of human contributions
    to a number of quakes.
  • Taking Groundwater
  • Geothermal Power Plants
  • Dams and reservoirs construction

6
Soil Erosion
  • Soil erosion occurs naturally by wind or harsh
    climatic conditions but
  • Humans can effect the soil by
  • Overgrazing
  • Overcropping
  • Deforestation

7
Renewable or Non-Renewable?
  • - With a partner distinguish between these
    resources.

8
Renewable Resources
  • - Resources than can be replenished.
  • -These include biomass, water, geothermal, wind,
    and solar
  • -Positives significantly less pollution and most
    importantly, renewable energy are available
everywhere throughout the world thus there is no
chance of the sources becoming depleted in
    future.
  • -Negatives expensive to produce and replenish
    slowly.

9
Non-Renewable Resources
  • - Resources than CAN NOT be replenished.
  • -Nonrenewable energy sources come out of the
ground as liquids, gases, and solids.
  • -Positives easy to transport and cost of
    production
  • -Negatives POLLUTION and when they are gone
    there is no coming back
