• Can be called Neptune or Operation Overlord
• Date June 6, 1944
• It was the largest invasion of all time, with
  over 175,000 troops
• Was one of the turning points in WWII

• This invasion required transport material from
  the UK by troop laden aircraft ships
• The British campaigned to sabotage various
  groups with attacking railway lines, ambushing
  roads

• Airborne Assault- In gliders Europe had to
  reinforce paratroops
• They were assigned to jump behind the enemy lines
  at night five ours after coastal landing

Dwight D. Eisenhower

• He was the general of the commanding troops
• When Germany surrendered he was appointed
  military governor
• He stated- We will accept nothing less than full
  victory.
