• Deeper-level question about characters
  motivations or the authors overall message.

Draw conclusions - put details together

• Carefully examine the evidence before drawing a
  conclusion.
• Make sure that your conclusions fit the general
  theme or tone of the story.

Identify with the characters.

• Imagine yourself in the characters situation.
• Think about how you might feel or react in that
  situation.

Use your senses - sights, sounds, and smells

• Match the descriptions of sights, sounds, smells,
  and feelings with similar situations that you
  have personally experienced.
• Use your imagination and the details that the
  author provides to picture the action in your
  mind.
