Title: DEEP STOPS
1DEEP STOPS
2Deep Stops
- Sometimes called Pyle Stops
- Found by accident by Richard Pyle
- Dont only have to be for Tech diving,
recreational divers can also do them - May help you feel less tired after dive
- Can be calculated at any depth during dive

Dive with Pyle Stops
30m
Pyle found that when he stopped to collect fish
at depth he felt less tired than when he found no
fish and went directly to the safety stop
5How to calculate a stop
- Take the maximum depth
- Take the depth of your first deco stop (this will
be your safety stop for recreational) - Find the midway point between the two
- Stop at this depth for 1 or 2 mins
- Calculate the midway point between this depth and
your compulsory deco stop - Continue until you are less than 10m from your
stop
6Maximum depth 30m
First stop 5m
Difference 30 5 25m Halve it 12.5m
So you must go up 12.5m from 30m
30m 12.5m 17.5m
First stop 18m
30m
7Current depth 18m
First stop 5m
Difference 18 5 13 m Halve it 6.5m
So you must go up 6.5m from 18m
18m 6.5m 11.5 m
Second stop 12 m
First stop 18m
30m
8Current depth 12m
First stop 5m
Difference 12 5 7 m which is less than 10
Go to 5m safety stop as normal
Second stop 12 m
First stop 18m
30m
9Some dive computers have the deep stop facility
programmed in
Count down timer
It tells you the depth but you can program the
time Will also tell you the next deep stop depth
