Introduction Disaster, natural or manmade,
occurred in increasing regularity and ferocity.
It was concentrated in time and space in a
society and incurred losses to its members and
disrupted the essential functions of the society.
Disaster planning is an arduous task and is one
of the major concern of many countries all over
the world. In the light of this, we are
interested in the research pattern of disaster
planning in recent years. In this study, a
quantitative analysis was done on disaster
planning related publications during the time
span of 1991 to 2002. Methodology Analysis was
based on Science Citation Index (SCI) and Social
Science Citation Index (SSCI) database using
Disaster planning as the keyword to search as a
part of the title, abstract or keyword.
  • Results and Discussion
  • 84 of the papers were in the form of articles,
6 as book review, and 4 as editorial materials
  • 284 papers were published in 189 journals with an
    average annual production of 24
  • Over 97 were published in English
  • Total citation 645
  • Yearly citation 53.75
  • Citation per paper 2.27
  • Conclusion
  • Top ten producing countries were all active in
scientific research and mostly were developed
    countries
  • Publication trend suggested that disaster
planning was a world research emphasis during the
    period of 1997 to 2001.
